Tenant Involvement
Shepherds Bush Housing Association (SBHA) is proud of its record
of tenant involvement. With tenants having direct access to places
on the Committee of Management and a wide range of other routes
that give tenants huge influence on our direction, strategies and
policies, we believe we are one of the leading housing
organisations in tenant involvement.
Our commitment to involving tenants is set out in this statement
from our five year strategy:
"Tenant involvement is part of our culture. We are known for the
level of involvement we offer tenants and their influence feeds
into all our strategies and policies. Our aim is to:
- communicate and emphasise this culture to staff, stakeholders
and members
- continue to involve tenants in all that we do and ensure they
shape our strategies, policies and standards
- be honest about meeting their expectations, be clear about our
use of resources and offer explanations or compensation when things
go wrong
- respect tenants' views and opinions and the level at which they
wish to become involved
- offer a range of opportunities for involvement
- provide access to information, training and decision-making
forums
- respect the diversity of our tenants and provide ways for
services to be accessible to all tenants and treat them in
accordance with our Equality & Diversity Policy. "
We want to give you an opportunity to become involved in our
work. We offer a range of different ways to allow you to choose
what most fits your time, requirements and level of interest:
- Become a shareholder of SBHA. It's just £1 and you will be
invited to our Annual General Meeting every year. Find out what is
involved - ask for a membership form at our Essex Place Square
office. Phone 020 8996 4200 for information
- Read News & Views, your tenants' newsletter, and raise
directly with us any issues of concern using the contacts in the
newsletter
- Attend the focus groups or meetings organised by SBHA on
particular subjects in your area and have your say. Watch out for
letters or posters with these dates
- Find out if there is a Tenants Association (TA) covering your
estate and consider becoming a member or offering to help. Your
Neighbourhood Officer can help identify where there is one.
Telephone 020 8222 7300
- Speak to your Neighbourhood Officer to see what meetings are
coming up on topics that interest you
- Attend the Independent Tenants' Committee (ITC) of SBHA
meetings. Watch out for details of their meetings and contact
intouch@sbha on 020 8996 4226 for times. They are
always willing to have new members come along and hold an AGM to
elect the Committee who decide who to appoint to the main Committee
of SBHA. The ITC acts for all SBHA tenants
- Attend the annual Tenants' Conference or Fun Day and ask about
opportunities to get involved
- If you want to start a group in your area with other tenants we
can help you with paperwork and registering a group with SBHA. This
gives you access to money to support your group. Contact your
Neighbourhood Officer for details
- Contact intouch@sbha on 020 8996 4226. This
organisation has been set up with the Independent Tenants'
Committee to support tenants directly and can help you become
involved in SBHA work
- Become a tenant monitor. See our separate information form on
this role
- You could just help us by completing occasional survey forms we
send to you with questions on how we are doing. All responses are
important and help us to shape and improve our services.
We have set targets for the next few years on developing tenant
involvement.
We want more tenants to be satisfied with opportunities to
become involved.
We want more tenants to become involved in meetings, focus
groups, TAs or other events organised by SBHA.
We want the number of Tenants Associations we recognise to
grow.
We want the tenants involved in these activities to reflect the
ethnic and age diversity of all our tenants.
We want you to be increasingly satisfied with the information we
send you.
Watch out for how we are doing in News & Views. Get involved
- help us to help you.
Many thanks
All the staff and Committee members of SBHA and the Independent
Tenants' Committee.
